Steven Dear, interim head-of-school at Long Trail School in Dorset, Vermont, called the VPR Art Hounds hotline to recommend the works of Vermont plein air painter George Van Hook.

Van Hook, whose works are in the Impressionistic style, has been painting through the seasons at Merck Forest and Farmland Center in Rupert, Vermont, and will show his 16 works at an open house this weekend.

Proceeds from the sale of these works will support the classes on sustainable management of forest and farmlands, making them more financially accessible to students.

Lorna Peal recommends two artists’ works at Helen Day Arts Center in Stowe: The sculpture of Denis Versweyveld and paintings by Austin Furtak-Cole.

Fran Bull, gallery owner and board member at the Carving Studio in West Rutland, Vermont, called about a collage exhibit by Robert Black on display at the Otter Creek Custom Framing Shop on Park Street in Middlebury, Vermont. The display is up until October 14th.

Tara O’Reilly suggested, "In Our Nature," an exhibition of 11 regional and local artists in a barn at Comfort Farm in Stowe. The show, which runs through October 14th, includes paintings, sculpture and photography. The barn itself is the ideal backdrop on which to showcase these nature-inspired works, which runs through Sunday, October 14th.

And Vermont writer Deborah Luskin wrote in to suggest  Jatoba Unplugged, a groove-grass band, playing Sunday, October 7th at the historic Rockingham Meeting House.

Luskin writes, "No electricity in the walls, just in the sounds of this indie trio playing guitars, sitars, banjos and other world instruments. Jason, one of the trio, was a journeyman carpenter on a big renovation at my house this summer, and introduced me to this exciting new sound!"
